Sundays
Ok – so I am having such a hard time going to church. Not because I don’t want to go – but because when I am there all I am doing is running around chasing Jaxon. He WILL NOT sit still for 5 min’s – so you can imagine what 3 hours must be like. I don’t hear anything at all. Today for example – I couldn’t even stay in Sunday school – I seriously was out in the hall the entire time and Jaxon was just running up to anyone and playing with them. Then for Relief Society I had grapes (his favorite) to give to him to try and keep him sitting still – and that lasted about 8 min’s until all the grapes were gone and then so was he. I mean I could take an entire CARTON of grapes and that would help him hold still longer – but then he would be sick haha. I have books, cars, phones, everything – and nothing keeps him interested. He won’t sit on my lap – he has to be standing on his own, but then when he is standing – he is running up to the front. So all the moms out there HELP! What do I do? He is only a year so I have 6 more months of this before he goes into nursery. If you ask me, as soon as the kids start walking, they should go to nursery lol. But what do I do – do I try and teach him that he has to be quite and hold still during church? Because I feel like there is NO WAY I will win that battle – or do I just go to church, let him run around in the halls to keep him happy, and count down the days until he can go to nursery and teach him to sit still and be quiet when he is older? Or do I become inactive until December (when he is 18 months) and go back to church then when I could actually get something more out of it than a workout LOL! HELP!

Oh boy, yes from a year until they go to nursery you will be out in the hall. We just made sure that Roxie was quiet and entertained in Sacrament meeting and then we would switch off who had her during Sunday school and Relief Society/Priesthood out in the hall. It stinks and I agree there should be a 12 month to 18 month nursery class:) Good luck!
ReplyDeleteAh yes, I remember those days like they were yesterday! To be honest there really isnt a whole lot you can do. Nate and I had to take turns A LOT, so that one of us could listen to a lesson one hour and then another could listen to the other! I am not going to lie, I do not miss those times, they made church MISERABLE. I am sorry, I really know how you feel. Try seeing if he can draw on paper yet, or if he is at all interested in it! Ill be thinking of some ideas for you, if I can remember anymore that we did with Coast!!
ReplyDeleteIt is being there that counts for now. Just enjoy chasing your little guy and before you know it he will be in nursery and you will miss having him with you (though it is nice to hear the lessons) ;)
ReplyDeleteYou get more out of church than you realize during these times, the spirit is there and the Lord is happy that you are there.
Good luck and enjoy!
I think it is better to be at church even if you are out in the hall a lot then not be there at all. The Lord knows you are doing your best and would rather have you there then at home. The spirit is still there in the church!
ReplyDeleteI remember doing that with Kaitlyn too! Dave and I would switch off so we could at least hear a lesson. He will be in nursery before you know it so just enjoy that time!!
Good Luck!
I don't have much advice for you because Mazie didn't wander around too much, she was pretty content to just hang out with Mommy and Daddy. However, I would be interested to know what you learn because Aftynn is turning out to be a lot like Jaxon...she is already wanting to crawl around and get into everything. In fact, the Sister Missionaries came over for dinner on Thursday and one of them said to me, "So this is the baby that was crawling all over the place Sunday!" Yep, that's my baby.
ReplyDeleteFor now just get the blessings from attending church and make sure you and Dan take turns in the hallway. Just being there for three hours recharges yoru batteries for the week even if you don't get to listen! Good luck!
I am going through that with Brynley right now and it's SO hard! Especially because her nap time is right in the middle of our block. She does great through sacrament and then during class she is ready for her nap and she is so cranky! I rarely make it to relief society. As long as I try that's all I care!
